tag deletion does unnecessary search
Running taglocity beta3 for OL2007
I just created a tag on accident. No big deal. I went into Taglocity -> Configure (I think that's it, I can't get the drop down while I wait) -> General, selected the tag and clicked the delete button. There was a warning that the tag had been used -0- times and that taglocity would need to search through the whole mail store to remove it from messages. Remember, it had been used -0- times. I'm now waiting and waiting and waiting while taglocity searches for the tag to delete it. I have a LOT of mail. Why is it searching when taglocity knows it isn't in use?
Hi Ken,
The tag counts aren't always very accurate, i.e. to the exact amount, due to the fact that items can be deleted or manually edited without Taglocity knowing about it. Also, some people use Outlook rules to set tags, and that can fail to increment/decrement the counts. Knowing this, we decided to show a 'Do you want to unassign Yes/No?' dialog so the user could decide themselves, but that might not have beeen the best thing to do. The search uses the underlying Outlook API, and it's not a great one in terms of performance (hence why desktop search products do so well with Outlook). The progress dialog that comes up should offer some sort of 'Cancel', so you can hit that. I've also seen issues with searching large PST files, as Outlook only really works solidly if they are under 2g - a large PST tends to get file errors, and Outlook struggles on, with things like Search either hanging or reducing to a crawl. This applies unfortunately, to Outlook 2007 too, so I am guessing it must be a file structure design problem that they had to keep compatible with. |
