AutoTag doesn't seem to do anything
Since I lost all my tags the other day, I have only found time to reapply one of them to a large bunch of messages in a certain folder I have. About 90% of the messages that get this tag have a number of common criteria:
* The senders and recipients have email addresses in a certain domain * All the people that occur in the header as either sender or recipient make up the same or a very similar group. Basically it's a group of people communicating using email threads, and "reply to all". * The text content can be on different topics, but there are certainly reoccurring factors, like the signatures of the people who mail all the time. Over the past day or two, I have had AutoTag switched on all the time, and I would have expected to get messages auto-tagged with that particular tag as they come in, if they fit the profile above of course. But I haven't actually seen a single message being tagged automatically so far. Do I have wrong expectations?
Hi Oliver,
I think that this is more IMAP issues with Outlook 2007. Normally when you just train up one (or even a few) Autotags, the behaviour is usually that it tags too much automatically, rather than too little. Due to the way the Outlook API has limited support for IMAP servers (compared to POP3 or Exchange), it looks like the Taglocity beta3 for Outlook 2007 does not properly support this configuration - sorry.
Pretty interesting statement there, from a user's perspective I get the impression that IMAP is pretty well supported. Looks like I'll uninstall Taglocity then - there seem to be enough gaps in Outlook 2007 support for now, and the lack of support for the IMAP configuration makes things a lot worse.
Sorry about that Oliver - obviously we'd like to support IMAP servers very much too. Thanks for your feedback regardless.
Here's some more info on the restrictions: http://pschmid.net/blog/2006/11/23/81 The downsides are things like this: "10. ...In addition, IMAP items in Outlook 2007 cannot be assigned the new color categories, as those are not supported by the IMAP protocol either. "
I see what you mean, but as I described to you by email, Outlook itself can do very well what Taglocity apparently cannot. Never mind - I'm out of here, in the direction of ClearContext. Will see how good their IMAP support is...
According to their FAQ, they don't support IMAP as a configuration, probably for the same reasons as we can't.
