  1. Taglocity is dead?

No updates or news since sept/2010. You guys quit the development of the plugin? If so, why not opening it to the community so that it can eventually be developed by some good souls? That way I won't need to uninstall it and lose my money...

    • Pressing the Enter key in the tag window should return the focus to the current view

If I'm typing a tag, I want to be able to return the focus to my currently selected view (usually my Inbox) by pressing the Enter key. Sometimes Ctrl+T behaves this way; sometimes not.

      • Esc and the Tagger

In Office 2007, if you want to move your cursor from the tagger to the e-mail list you hit Escape. This does not work In Office 2010. In Addition, doing a ctl+T doesn't always move the cursor back to the e-mail list. I would like to be able to hit Escape to move my cursor back to the e-mail list.

        • Negative Filter

I have gone from 20+ Outlook folders to two, thanks to Taglocity. I now have an Action and an Archieve folder.

In the Archive folder, I find myself wanting to look at all emails that are NOT tagged with a specific tag. I have log and monitor emails that clog up my Archieve folder and I would like to filter these out to get an overview of the rest.

          Is this possible?

This can be done two ways:
            1) With Taglocity Search, you can search on the tag you don’t want, then right click on it in the prune tag cloud and choose ’Must not contain"
            2) Create a custom Outlook Search Folder, choose the Advanced tab, then filter on the Category field.

          • Be able to disable suggested tags

I use the tagbar constantly, but I do not want the suggested tags. It would be great to be able to disable the suggested tags from the tagbar.

Suggested tags can be disabled simply by resizing the window. Once the window is resized so that none of the Suggested Tags panel is visible, Taglocity does not make suggestions.

            • integration with X1 for searching

X1 is the most powerful search tool (much more than Windows Search -two features for all: it indexes also content of zip attachments and you can write complex search expressions) so it would be very interesting to have this integration, if possible....

I took a quick look at the X1 website and did some searching but couldn’t find published API documentation. Anyone know if they index Outlook categories? Google desktop search doesn’t which is why we can’t integrate with them.

Anyway, WDS is getting better all the time and soon I’m sure they’ll be able to index ZIP file contents.

I should add that it is already possible to write complex search expressions, even in Taglocity Search. For example, you can type this into the Taglocity Search box to find everything from Bob Jones with the word ‘campaign’ and tags ‘marketing’ or ‘email’: campaign from:“bob jones” tag:(“Marketing” OR “email”)

Here is a link to more advanced query syntax: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/desktopsearch/technicalresources/advquery.mspx

              • Use Google Desktop Search instead of Windows Desktop Search

Because many users prefer GDS to WDS. This way it could be avoided to have both services running.

It makes sense to only want one index service running which is why I don’t understand why GDS doesn’t index Outlook categories - Google simply doesn’t provide a viable alternative.

Taglocity tags are saved on items as categories. For example, you can enter this in a Windows Search box: tag:(“to do” expense) and all your email tagged/categorized with ‘to do’ and ‘expense’ will show up in your search results. Last time I checked, you couldn’t do this with GDS because it simply doesn’t index Outlook categories.

If you want to experiment with Taglocity Search and WDS, here’s a neat trick: After you run any search in Taglocity, you can hover your mouse over the Search Criteria label on the bottom left of the Taglocity Search window and see the equivalent WDS query. If you click on the label, the WDS query will be copied so that you can paste…

                • What is "filter editor" in 'auto assign tags' window for?

I'm not really sure what is the "filter editor" in 'auto assign tags' window for. can't find any instructions on it.

I found it in the context menu when I right click on the names of the columns.

That’s an advanced feature to allow you to filter the contents of the grid to help view or find related rows. For example, if you have hundreds of criteria, you may want to just see the criteria (rows) where the values in the Field Name column have the word (equals) Subject, or where the Assign Tags column contains the tag ‘Project A’, etc.

                  • Attach a description field to a tag

It would be nice if Taglocity included a way of attaching "notes" to tags. Although a tag can be a lengthy name, often there is still more information that I would like to "write down" about a tag. For instance:

                    * Date the tag was created
                    * Expected life of the tag (ie. when it was or will be retired)
                    * Project(s) the tag will be associated with
                    * User(s) with more knowledge on the tag (ie. experts)
                    * Associated tags (ie. ones outside of its group)
                    * An extended definition of the tag

While this is a good idea, it takes the concept of tagging to a whole new level that is not part of our plans. Thanks for the suggestion.

                    • Connect Tags to Contacts

A further capability that could be added to Taglocity would be the ability to connect tags to contacts. This is on the idea that a Contact folder doesn't have to contain "contacts". It could, instead, contain a list of "Projects". You could have a special Contacts folder that could be called "Projects". Tags could then be created and marked as a project which would cause Taglocity to add it to this "Projects" folder. When email (etc.) is tagged with a project tag, the tag would be added to the Contacts field of the email (perhaps in addition to adding it…

Do you currently tag you contacts, as you can do that at the moment. Calendar entries, tasks, in fact more or less anything you see in Outlook can have tags assigned. I ask because you might be able to do a lot of what you describe already using tags and search folders / filters.

                        Thanks for the feedback.
