First Impressions of Beta 2

By far the most significant feature is the "New Tag..." tool on the TagCloud.  It's been absolutely critical in getting a decent set of Tags up an running, as it was previously the biggest thing to slow me down.

The auto-generate from Folder tool works great, but it would be much more useful to allow multiple selection (since I have a lot of historical folders to tag).  Also, I have some sub-folders that really just need the tag of their parent folder, so it would be great to be able to select a "tag all items in child folders too" option.

Up until now, I've been using Task folders to manage my projects a la "Getting Things Done".  I'm still sorting though how Taglocity will fit in, replace, or sit alongside, that "structure".

In the Tags from Folders "wizard", when you select a folder with non-alphanumeric characters, it chops the tagname at that character.  So, if I select a folder called "Research: Windows Vista", the suggested tagname is "Research".  I can change the name, but it would be great if it simply stripped out all of the invalid characters instead, e.g. "ResearchWindowsVista".

Suggestion: Allow editing of a Tag from the TagCloud ... e.g. right click | Properties ...

In the Settings dialog, on the General tab, the Outlook Integration section appears to be global, but the existance of the tag list to the left makes this seem like tag level settings.  Maybe separate them into two tabs?

And this is getting even more picky ... in the Settings dialog, on the General tab, the "Delete..." probably shouldn't have elipses as it seems to indicate that a dialog will appear to do more.  Instead, it's just a confirm dialog for what is selected.  Multi-select to delete might be useful here too.

I'm a multi-desktop user, so my next release request (I heard that list is filling up so I'll get my request in early ;-)) is for synchronization between desktops (perhaps by storing the tags on the Exchange server).

Thanks for the feedback Casey.

Don't forget the 'New Tag' is also down from the Tools menu, but I will move the link up to the TagCloud top order too.

I've filed the 'Tags from Folders' tagname as a bug - I like your suggestion of stripping invalid characters.

I hear what you're saying about the right mouse button actions on the TagCloud - I've avoided it up to now as I had some plans a little down the road to 'expand' the tag selection like that.

The Delete has now been updated in that it now asked if you want to remove the tag from all the Outlook data, and is more of a dialog. That'll be in the next drop.

As for the Taglocity settings being stored in Outlook/Exchange rather than the desktop, that is very possible (the data is small, a bit of xml and would fit nicely into an Outlook message), but the AutoTag statistics are stored locally. They are a fixed size of 3mb each, so would have a problem if stored on the Exchange size (not impossible, but awkward if you have a lot of AutoTags configured).

Thanks again for the feedback - appreciated.
