Using Tags to Organize your Actions

I have typically used flags to identify which emails need follow up.  Recently, I started to use Tags to see if they work any better.

I have set up 3 tags: ActionHigh (for those things my job depends on), ActionOther (other actionable items but not critical for my job), and ReadMeLater (for interesting things to read).

When an email comes in, I flag them as one of those three actions, plus other non-action tags for categorization.

I have set up an OL 2003 search folder filtering on these 3 tags, and use these to manage actionable items. The email stays in my inbox until it gets archived in a few months.  If I don't finish the action by the time it gets archived, it likely will never be opened up.

Additionally, if I need a reminder, I set that as well.

It seems to be working ok.  I like having the action on my sent items as well, so it shows items i want to follow up with as well.  These tags are all the first few tags on the Tagbar, so "alt-2" gets ActionHigh, etc.

I haven't found a really good way to group by High, Other or read yet. I might have to set up 3 action search folders instead of one.

How are the rest of you managing the 'to do' emails?  Are you using tags, or moving items from your inbox to another folder?

NOTE: the reason I don't like/use separate folders for emails is because the Find All related messages feature in Outlook only searched in Draft, Inbox and Send (and the current folder).  this looks like it changes in OL 2007.
