Tab cloud issues

I am experiencing some problems with the tag cloud.

1. My sort preference seems to loose track of the alphabetic and resorts to use ordered.  I have not been able to identify any circumstances that cause this behavior.

2. The cloud still seems to forget what its pin behavior is and remains on top even after switching to a non-Outlook app.  Often applications start up under the tag cloud with the cloud not minimizing or going to the background even if selecting the new window.  This behavior does not seem isolated to a single application either.  If I activate an Outlook window then activate the new application window the cloud behavior will revert to the correct mode.

Dave,

I am posting here because I know you will read as well as others in the beta.

Hi Mike

(1) Yes, in 2.1 the sort orders are not 'sticky'. This has been reworked and the settings will be saved in the next drop.

(2) Again, the pin is not saved between Outlook sessions or open/closing the TagCloud. This will be fixed.

As a general note on the TagCloud the current feeling is to get rid of the 'click squares' to save space and just use a 'Config...' tag (it will look like the 'Add Tag...' link) and put all the new saveable config settings on a new form.

Other settings include:

- Choice of Font, Font Size Min, Max
- TagCloud 'Dock' - this will attach the cloud to the top/bottom/left/right of the main Outlook window and resize accordingly
- Show the TagCloud as a 'Cloud' or just as the new rapid entry 'Quick Tag' line (think how http://del.icio.us 'add tag line looks)

Thanks for the feedback.

On the docking issue.  I have a hot key to open a new mail message via the keyboard.  The main Outlook window never maximizes.  The tag cloud however does come up with the new email window and goes away when I close the window.  It would be nice if the new docking feature were smart enough to realize that the main was not visible and instead docked with the email window.

Also, there is a behavior inconsistency with the tag cloud.  Here are the steps.

1. create shortcut to open a new Outlook message

  "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\OUTLOOK.EXE" /c ipm.note

2. Click it
You will note that the cloud activates

3. Complete address and content

4.

  a) use Ctrl+Enter to send.
The cloud stays visible - usually
or
  b) use the mouse to send
The cloud goes away - sometimes

I say usually and sometimes because the behavior is not consistent.

The Tag Cloud really needs docking into the Outlook window; floating around the desktop is not really working that well for me.

It may be worth considering keeping the tag bar (first 8 'squares') for methods like GTD. I keep my cloud in alphabetical order. The ability to define and switch method sets would also be cool.

On the subject of docking - it would also enhance usability to have the Quick filter also docked into the Outlook window. i.e. filter on the left, cloud on the right

If you keep the quickfilter open is stays top of desktop and gets in the way.
