Teh mouse over says "The Autotag button when selected will automatically classify your new inbox emails.  If you wish to manually classify some messages then select your items and turn this button on".

What does this exactly mean?  It sounds like there are 2 things it does:

1) If the button is off, the autotagging is disabled for new items, even if there are tags with Autotag = true.

2) If you select a number of emails, the system will apply the AI will run against these selected items, updating the tags based on the latest Autotagging settings.

Is that correct?

Yes, that's correct.

It's a toggle for the 'classification' stuff, as in anything that arrives in the inbox will get analyzed if the toggle is left on.

Plus it also works as an ad hoc selection thing too. You highlight what you want to classify and then toggle it on then off.

I agree with Tim, this is quite confusing, I think.
The use of AutoTag on old messages forces the user to click twice on AutoTag button, to get back in the auto mode. Perhaps I missed something ?

BTW, what's the button next to Autotag ? (the gears) I haven't guessed it's functionnality yet ;o) ( adding a tooltip on it would be nice )

Yes, I'll rethink the overloading of the AutoTag toggle. There is plenty of room for a 'AutoTag Selected Now' on the Tools menu, and that may be simpler.

The tools/gears icon was a placeholder that

(a) made the Tools menu look nicer :-)

(b) could be assigned with your favorite tool action, i.e. just click the gears to get to 'Tag Search' for example.

As I took some things out of beta 2 on the tools menu it makes the 'gears' shortcut a little useless (at the moment), but that was the thinking behind it...
